Resources to Help You Become a Better Writer
Did you know that part of the writing process is to read about, research, and study the craft of writing? You might want to schedule a day every week or every other week to devote to learning. Look up some of these resources, take notes, and know this is helping you grow as a writer.
We are fortunate to have a plethora of information at our fingertips on the internet, but because there are so many sites, I recommend choosing a handful on which to focus.
Here’s my list of go-to writing resources.
My all-time favorite book on writing:
The Art of Spiritual Writing, by Vinita Hampton Wright
Just a slim little book, but one I always return to. Practical and insightful. If you’re going to purchase one book, this is the one to purchase.

Web resources
Founded by Kathi Lipp and hosted by her and Michelle Cushatt, this site includes podcasts, blog posts, and input from many guest contributors. It’s a great resource for speakers and writers. Click here for a great post on “Creativity Under a Deadline.”
Proverbs 31 Ministries’ writing training website is designed to help you write words that move people. This membership website is open only certain times of the year, so watch for it. At $25 per month, it is great value for your money. One of their unique features is their Facebook writing groups, for encouragement and/or critique. Click here to learn more.
Chad’s tagline is a great summary of his website: helping you find your voice and do your art. He’s an encourager of those involved in the art of writing and speaking, and with a background in publishing, he offers hands-on tools as well. Click here for his list of useful resources.
Former Chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers, author, speaker, marketer, mentor, Hyatt’s tips are geared to make you stand out in what he calls the “noisy world.”
Also, if you need guidance in writing a book proposal, you need Michael Hyatt’s book, the industry standard, Writing a Winning Nonfiction Book Proposal.
One more, just because it’s fun: this app to help you capitalize titles correctly. Click here to give it a try.

A fun fact and one more fantastic resource for speakers:
Amy is now writing once a month for the Communicator Academy blog. Click here to read her first post titled “How to Face an Empty Speaking Calendar”.
Amy will also be a coach at this year’s Leverage conference for speakers. It’s being held in beautiful San Jose, CA November 12-15, and she would love to see you there. Click the link above for all the details!
I enjoy recommended resources from those I trust!
Problogger.com is a great site, too.
Thank you, Melanie 🙂
Thanks Charla, will look that one up! Melanie
