It’s only 5 weeks until She Speaks!!! Even though I know you’re not all going this year, I’d love to whet your whistle for going at some point and to encourage those of you who are going.
Years ago, I wrote a series of tips on She Speaks that tap into my first experience as an attendee. You can read the series by clicking on each link below:
Do you have any questions about She Speaks either as a 2016 attendee or a possible future attendee? I’d love to answer them in the comments!

BTW: My friend Cheri Gregory and I have started a new podcast. We’re so excited, and we’d love for you to check it out by clicking here!
There’s lots of information here. Thanks! I am planning to attend 2017 and these tips are wonderful. Will check the website regarding the feature that informs when registration is open.
I have attended several general writing conferences, but this one seems to be specifically for my needs. I am ready to publish my first book by 2018. I am so looking forward. to attending. I welcome any suggestions in regard to preparation.
Thank you.

HI Amy…
I am planning on attending She Speaks in 2017.
I was wondering if there are tentative dates already set up or when it will be known so I can begin to schedule it into my calendar among family and kid responsibilities. Secondly, when would it be the appropriate time to register for it ahead of time. April? Thank you for all that you do to blaze a trail for many others to learn how to blaze their own trails!!!

So excited that we’ll finally get to meet face-to-face after all these years, Merci! You ask a great question, and I’m sure lots of folks wonder the same thing. Planning ahead is good!
For the past few years, She Speaks has started on Thursday in the 3rd full week in July. I’ll come back and correct later if I find out differently, but it looks like it will be July 20-23, 2017.
Registration for She Speaks opens late February or early March. If you want to go, it’s important to sign up early. It filled up really fast this year, and there are over 900 women on the waiting list. Craziness! In the past, there has been a way to sign up for notification when registration opens. Check the website in August this year to see if they still have included that feature.
For everyone who has always wanted to go to She Speaks, start saving today for 2017. I know it’s a significant investment, but I have NEVER heard anyone say it wasn’t worth it.
Thanks for these amazing tips, Amy!! I took a sigh of relief as I was reading them;). I do have a question for you, as a first time attendee. I was reading on another blog with some helpful tips for the conference, that it would be helpful to have business cards and possibly even a one sheet for speakers to bring with them. As a beginner, I do not have professional headshots to include on business cards, and I’m in the process of changing my blog over to a website. Nor am I familiar with a one sheet:). Would you go ahead and recommend that I get business cards and work on a one sheet for the conference, or would you recommend I wait? Thank you for this post!!
Erika, I wouldn’t worry at all about have a one-sheet/biosheet for She Speaks this year if you don’t have one in place. Business cards are nice just to be able to easily exchange information with women you meet, but I wouldn’t go to much expense to make them. You can actually buy ones that will go through your printer at the office supply stores, or you can get cheap ones from VistaPrint. A great headshot with your smartphone is a bonus. They’re not at all a necessity, but they may be nice to have.
The reason I wouldn’t invest much is that when you have a design done, I suggest getting the design for your website, biosheet, and business cards done all at once. It’s cheaper to bundle, and it creates a unified branding. Save your pennies for when the time is right for that big project rather than sweating over getting anything done for She Speaks.
Can’t wait to see you there!
