I got a rejection from a magazine I was hoping to publish a series of articles with.
My negative feelings took over quickly. I felt discouraged, like a failure, and doubtful of my writing abilities.
Can you relate? Did a failure cause your feelings to tumble downwards?
Maybe your book proposal was turned down, your social media audience is not growing, book sales are dismal, or good ideas have dried up.
One of the best things about growing in my relationship with the Lord is that I’ve created some habits to keep me grounded in the reality of what God says.
Here are some action steps for when you’re feeling like a failure:
1. Our thoughts can rule our emotions in a negative way or a positive way.
Develop the habit of “taking every thought captive to the obedience Christ,” as we learn in 2 Corinthians 10:5. This is a habit you can develop to counteract the downward spiral of negativity.
2. Remember spiritual warfare is real.
The enemy is a thief whose aim is to “steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10). He’ll steal your confidence, kill your creativity, and destroy your obedience. Don’t let him win!
3 – Pray truth.
Pray Scripture. Personalize it. Here are a few verses to pray and declare over yourself.
Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
To personalize it, add your name: For I, Melanie, am His workmanship…
Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Don’t let failure, rejection, doubt, or discouragement condemn you. Keep moving forward in God’s purpose for you.
